Kamesho Kurukuru Sushi

Good sushi restaurant and seems to be popular with the locals. Sushi was fresh. Certain sushi favourites get sold out early. So, come early.

Has to wait for our turn when we arrived at 7pm. Most of the items are selling out fast by the rime we are seated.

This was honestly some of the best sushi I’ve had in my life. It’s a tiny place that used to be a conveyor-belt sushi shop but has since turned into a made-to-order restaurant, now using tablet ordering like the big chains. The fish quality is excellent, and the slices are much thicker than what you get at discount conveyor places. You pay a bit more, but because the portions are generous, you actually end up spending about the same. The miso soup was probably the best I’ve ever had. I do have two small complaints. First, the rice often stuck very strongly to the plate, making it difficult to pick up without the sushi falling apart. The rice also felt a bit too tightly pressed together. Second, we ordered what was supposed to be the fattiest tuna cut (I think chutoro), but other guests seemed to get noticeably fattier pieces. I don’t want to assume anything or call it discrimination, but it did feel a little odd. Still, it was great sushi overall. The atmosphere is a bit hectic compared to larger conveyor-belt chains, but the taste easily makes up for it.

Stopped by on a Monday around 3 PM and still had to wait about 30–40 minutes, but it was totally worth it. The sushi was fresh, tasted great, and the prices were really good for the quality. You can tell why this place stays busy. Definitely don’t mind the wait when the food is this good.

The sushi is generous in size, and the Chutoro is exceptional. To order a table, we need to write the name for a reservation in the morning at 9.00, then return about three hours later, around 12.00, for our table and still waiting around one hour to enjoy the sushi It's a must-visit whenever you're in Beppu!

To secure a table, we need to write the name for a reservation in the morning at 9:30, then return about three hours later, around 1:30, for our table. There are 8 tables and counter available, but the waiting time can be at least 3-4hrs. It's a must-visit whenever we're in Beppu!

The place was great. Fish portion was big and fresh. The wait was a bit long though. Each dish was probably 200 to 550yen.

Sushi is definitely good, can taste the sweetness of the fresh seafood, the price is very reasonable as well, free self served miso soup and hot mocha. BUT, because it is so popular, expect super long wait time. Came here on Sunday 15 Dec 2025, registered name at 8am, Q no. 37 shop open around 11+, only got seated 1.30pm.
